Burana Tower
The remains of an ancient Silk Road town, with a tall brick minaret and old carved stones.

Burana Tower is what is left of Balasagun, a city on the Silk Road. The minaret dates from around the 11th century, and you can usually climb it for a view over the valley.
Next to it is a field of balbals, carved stone figures from the nomadic peoples who lived on these steppes. It is an easy stop on the way out of Bishkek and pairs well with a day in the mountains.
